Stapedectomy

Stapedectomy is a surgical operation that is conducted for hearing impairment caused by condition otosclerosis where abnormal bone growth affects the improved stapes, which is the little U-shaped bone that plays an important role in the process of hearing in the middle ear. The stapes passes sound vibrations from the middle ear to the inner ear. In cases where such an ear is immobilized due to otosclerosis, it fails to vibrate appropriately leading to conductive deafness.

In stapedectomy surgery, the surgeon removes the damaged stapes and substitutes it with an extremely small prosthetic instrument. This artificial stapes works like a bone itself allowing sound waves get transmitted into the inner ear and thereby enhancing hearing once more. Nowadays there are modern-day techniques for stapedectomy surgery that are very precise and enable recovery of any hearing loss within various degrees.

The most important breakthrough in this operation has been application of laser technology for it. Laser stapesetomy permits more exact removal with little trauma on adjacent tissue covering areas involving bones within middle part of ears. After that one experiences lesser hemorrhage associated risks, swift recovery periods and less complications outcomes due to such surgeries performed using laser methods. Also, current models used as substitute parts have better compatibility with human body thus improving effectiveness levels during surgical procedures involving them today.
