Hydrocele Surgery

A hydroselectomy is a surgical procedure that removes or repairs a hydrocele, which is an abnormal and excessive fluid-filled sac around a testicle that leads to swelling in the scrotum. A hydrocele can occur in one or both sides of the scrotum; if both sides are affected, it is termed as bilateral hydrocele. Generally, hydroceles may not be painful and can even resolve without any treatment, but their visibility and location at sensitive areas of the body make them a concern.

It’s important to understand the process of hydrocelectomy before getting it done if you are thinking about having it done. The surgery involves cutting small skin on your scrotum so that all the fluid can be drained out including those inside the sac receiving excess fluid. The operation does usually take place as an outpatient procedure and the recovery time is always relatively fast. After going through this surgery you may feel some swelling or hurt at your scrotum but most of these will disappear within several weeks.

In cases where hydrocele is huge or causes discomfort and doesn’t disappear on its own hydrocelectomy is frequently recommended. If you see any lumps or bumps in your scrotum, it is essential to visit a doctor as this might imply something else other than just hydroceles. With early diagnosis and treatment prognosis can be improved greatly.
