An eye disease called glaucoma could be a blockage of visual signals travelling from the sight organ to the brain causing injury to the eye’s optic nerve. High intraocular pressure (IOP) is often associated with this kind of damage, though individuals who have normal eye pressure may also experience such condition. The progression of this disease may occur gradually and without any noticeable symptoms, until it reaches a point where sight is significantly lost.

Among various types of GLAUCOMA found the most common being primary open angle glaucoma which develops slowly over time and does not cause pain at all thus making it necessary for regular checkups for easy detection. On the contrary, closed-angle glaucoma develops quite suddenly and it is treated as an emergency.

One unique feature about Glaucoma treatment is that they aim at lowering eye pressure so as to prevent further damage to the optic nerve through medication, laser therapy or surgery. In cases where drugs and lasers fail to keep eye pressure levels in check then doctors usually advise on surgery for glaucoma correction. The main aim here is either finding new ways for draining fluids away from eyes or improving existing ones so as to reduce intraocular pressure.
