Cranioplasty
Cranioplasty is performed to restore deformities elsewhere that happened on skull. People often undergo this type of procedure after they have suffered from traumatic injuries around their head or following previous surgeries involving cranial areas in the body until today it is still used whenever there is a shape abnormality affecting the head bone either in size or count. Among other goals are restoring protective functions of cranium, improving appearance of skull itself, and having some cases reducing symptoms like headache or convulsion resulted from defected area.
A missing part may be replaced with customized implant or a broken area can be repaired during this process. It also involves reshaping the skull and contouring any abnormalities that may exist. Cranioplasty is usually regarded as an elective surgery, meaning it’s planned ahead of time and done upon request. It can also be performed after certain brain surgeries such as craniectomy where some parts of the skull had been removed before in order to relieve pressure inside the brain.
Depending on your specific case conditions your surgeon will advise you whether it is possible to undergo cranioplasty at all and if so, when would be most appropriate. The purpose of this procedure is not only to restore integrity from the outside into the skull but to also enhance one’s life through addressing both functional aspects and aesthetic issues.
