Blocked fallopian tubes
The fallopian tubes are an essential female reproductive organs that connect the ovaries to the uterus. The fallopian tubes transport an egg from the ovary to the uterus during ovulation, which occurs approximately in the middle of a menstrual cycle. Conception typically takes place in the fallopian tube when sperm fertilizes the egg before it moves to the uterus for implantation.
When a fallopian tube is blocked, it can prevent sperm from reaching the egg, and it can also block the fertilized egg from traveling to the uterus. It can cause fertility problems and, in some cases, may increase the chances of an ectopic pregnancy: when the fertilized egg is implanted within the fallopian tube instead of inside the womb. There are several reasons why these blockages happen, including surgical scars or pelvic infections.
There are various treatments available if you are having fertility issues due to blocked fallopian tubes. Surgical procedures can be conducted to remove such obstructions whereas assisted reproductive technologies like In Vitro Fertilization bypasses fallopian tubes for fertilization. Hence, it is imperative that you discuss with your healthcare provider about what will work best depending on how severe and what caused blockage as well as your overall aim of reproduction.
