Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is a type of surgery that aims to repair a hairline which has receded. A receding hairline occurs when the hair on the forehead and temples thins out gradually and it is a common symptom of male pattern baldness. Mostly, this condition affects people assigned male at birth (AMAB) and has a major influence on appearance and self-esteem.

For instance, during a hairline transplant, a surgeon will take healthy hair samples from areas on the scalp that have dense hair such as the back or sides of the head then put them into bald spots along the hairline. The aim here is to achieve an appearance that looks like natural hairline that forms part of your face’s features thus making you look younger.

There are two major techniques employed in surgeries involving hairlines; they include Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), strips containing hairs are removed from patient’s scalp whereas Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) will select each single follicle at once from there. However, both approaches are valid; what informs choice includes factors such as texture and degree of baldness plus personal preferences.

Hairline transplants are fairly simple and often done by the outpatient procedures with local anaesthesia where discomfort is very minimal and the recovery period short. Afterward, there may be some mild swelling or redness around the transplant areas but these will usually clear up in days to weeks. In the beginning, the new locks are shed naturally; hence, after a few months, they start growing again, finally resulting into fully matured tresses after a whole year.
