Gastric Balloon Surgery
The intragastric balloon system is a needlingly invasive weight loss option proposed for the morbidly obese who have tried unsuccessfully to lose weight by means of exercising and following dietary regimens only. This technique involves inserting a balloon made of flexible material and filled with air in the stomach without undergoing any surgical procedures.
The procedure is rapid and often performed on an outpatient basis. A healthcare professional inserts the balloon endoscopically, that is through the mouth into the stomach using a thin tube that has a camera at its end. Saline is then used to inflate the balloon in situ. The total duration of this process estimated at around 20 to 30 minutes, with most patients being discharged on the same day.
This work is temporary, typically existing for six months before its retrieval. During this period, effective eating behavior change will be reinforced through collaboration between you and other members of your health care team so that you can make lasting improvements. The intragastric balloon acts as a catalyst for fast weight loss and ultimately leads one to a healthy, more promising future
