Coronary angioplasty is a type of medical operation done to enable proper blood flow into your heart by opening occluded arteries. These arteries which supply your heart muscle with oxygenated blood for its proper functioning are referred to as coronary arteries.

During this procedure, your doctor will insert a thin tube known as a **catheter** into an arm or leg blood vessel then steer it towards the blocked kidney artery in the heart. The catheter has at its tip, a tiny inflatable balloon that expands slowly thereby widening the blocked artery thereby enhancing blood flow.

After sponsoring the artery, a small ‘stent’ which is essentially a wire mesh tube is always placed there. A stent would keep the artery open thus reducing chances of becoming small again. The contemporary stents have medication which helps prevent re-closure over time.

If you’re contemplating coronary angioplasty, it’s essential to note that this procedure relieves chest pain; enhances physical activity capabilities and minimizes incidences of heart attack. Typically, it is straightforward and quite safe leading to better living standards by improving blood supply to the heart.
